Akut, Member of the german MACLAIM Crew. We invite him as judge for Write4Gold New Zealand because of his individual performance of sureal characters and his technical know how to use a spraycan. Check the photos in the gallery below to see akuts brandnew stuff.

1. When you start to paint?

Akut: I started graffiti in 1991.

2. What you think in relation to other graffiti crews, what makes the different between Maclaim and other crews?

Akut: I think the relationship between characters and styles is the most important difference. 3 of 4 do only characters. Furthermore, we have another structure in our crew. One of us is only responsible for the concept which we paint . Another one is in charge of the coordination of the bookings. And so on . it is not a crew, its more like a company.

3. Did you paint on trains in the past?

Akut: as akut of maclaim: no

4. Why you decide to paint the name "akut"?

Akut: the combination of the letters is not really important for someone who does not write graffiti typography. I also liked the sound of the name.

5. You had the pleasure to visit New York in the past? If yes, Whats your impression ?

Akut:  I was there in the year 2000. When I saw the city, I knew why it is the uterus of graffiti.

6. Did you know anything about the graffiti scene in new zealand?

Akut:  many german writers were there in the past. I heard a lot of interesting things about this scene. I’m looking forward to what I can experience there for myself.

7. Its hard to judge at write4gold? Whats your impression of Write4Gold Moscow 2004 and Write4Gold Athens 2005? Where you visit Write4Gold as judge with the maclaim crew.

Akut:  no, i think its not so hard. Only the interpretation of some of the sub points is not so easy. Moscow and athen are very warm and friendly citys. I was very impressed of athen. The people there do graffiti on a really high level.

8. What is the situation actually inside the maclaim crew? What about the future? Whats new?

Akut:  At the moment we’ve got a lot of stress with studying and so on. Thats the reason why we spray less but with more heart and with a greater aim in mind.

9. You paint in daily commercial art works or sometimes?

Akut:  At the moment i do a lot of jobs together with HERA from Wiesbaden. at present we arrange shops and show rooms for carhartt europe.

10. What u think about spraycans in general? There are big differents between brands like molotow premium, montana gold or mtn alien? If not which spraycan have which advantage in using for your art works?

Akut:  It’s just a question of routine and the area of operation. For my photorealistic work the gold is the best tool. Surely every brand has its own pros and cons and their own unique area of usage.

11. Do you use special utilities for your artworks means special caps or something else?

Akut:  Cans, skinny, fat cap, caper color, brushes, sticks, cutter, music, coffee, cigarettes

12. A book is planned about maclaim, its a rumour or true? If yes whats the reason to publish a book about Maclaim, tell us why you think that maclaim is supposed to have an own book?

Akut:  The maclaim book differs with other graffiti books. It shows not only our work. It obtained our technology and our approach. we explain the basics to spraying in a photorealistic way on the most important examples. I think there is a targeted group for this very contentful book.
