Last weekend of February 2008 about 100 writers meet up in the small town of Itzehoe, north of Hamburg, Germany. Itzehoe has for the last 20 years had a giant abandoned concrete factory area, an empty ghost-like place filled with nice graffiti. Over the years, many many writers have left their mark at this beautiful location, that must be among the biggest hall of fame areas in the world. But all good things comes to an end and now there are big plans for redevelopement of the area, the bulldozers have already started eating up the old buildings. See below some pics of the graff session to say "good bye" and a few still up walls around the area. R.I.P. (Flix by FUP)

Tags, throwups and pieces are part of almost every major cityscape around the world, and are more or less part of our everyday life. AlterEgo takes you to major cities around the world and into the lifes of some very passionate individuals standing behind those written identities, walking the borderline between creation and destruction, art and vandalism. They describe the motivation that drives them to paint the streets, explaining their work and their personal backgrounds, what graffiti is, what it means to them and it'sdevelopment to the present day.

"...it gave me a purpose for my life," sais Smash137 from Basel about his work, "...while others have to think about what they want to do with their lifes, i always knew that i wanted to paint..."

The camera follows them around into places, one would hardly see on their own, shows them on their urban missions as well as their studios and homes.

Trailer Alter Ego - The Movie

" Graffiti is something that's embraced by the youth. And you know why? Because it's so honest so raw and simple, putting your name out there or saying something you want to say..."

sais Tkid, an old school writer from New York. The featured artists talk about their justification using public space as a means for their expression, the role of Graffiti in an arthistorical context and the influence on society of advertisement placed in the most public areas.

Most of the featured artist pursue a professional career already, either as artists or designers or in fields not related to art at all. They come from different social backgrounds, different countries and cultures, but they all have one thing in common - the love for their creation and expression, and everything that comes out of it.
