Congratulations to the winner, the VMD´s, the second THE and the 3rd JPEG Crew.At first, tell me what is your name and your crew and since when did you paint?

VMD70´s: Our crew is vmd70s, most of the members starter writing about 92-93, we were Two different crew back in the days, the 70s who were more active on the FS Trains, and the VMD who were down in bombing streets and FN line. We Merged up in one crew, VMD70S, back in 98, when we started to heavily hit Milan subway together.

THE Crew: THE, THE SINCE 1997, and I start to paint in december 1993 

JPEG Crew:  Many thanks! I’m scoe from ©>>.jpeg crew, but I also write "rasex". Our group for the w4g was coposed by: Capo, Read, Fargo, Oste and me, in pur group the oldest writer is capo who write since ’94 the youngest is me who I begin from only few years.

what you think about the write4gold in rome on 14th of june? do you expect so many visitors there? explain in some sentences your impressions about the competition, the organisation and the quality of the concept walls in comparison to the italian write4gold in 2004. It was easy to convert the topic "Hot Spot"?

VMD70´s: It have been a lot of fun, that's what counts. The general quality of the walls is higher than the last year, the spot was cool cause of the bmx riders contest and all the rest, but I prefer a situation like the previous Year, more space, more chill, no people stressing us for the joints! About the topic Hot spot, double O, double T. Not easy, so we made it even harder... 'VIMO HOT SPOT'. Triple O has been a cool idea finally, cause it gave out a nice balance to the whole wall putting characters instead of the O letters. About the topic, we didn't care too much about giving a 'hot spot' sense to the wall, we concentrate on making a kicking ass lettering. Isn't writing about letters???

THE Crew: 14th of june? well, I think it was an good experience...for the competition I think it was good, only one thing: it would be nice that on throw-ups and tags, all the writers start in the same time (like: you say the word, 2 minutes sketching and than all toghether starting writing)... than the jury: also if probably there are pieces nicest than us (of course), I think VMD get totally out of the word HOT SPOT (a rose and a ball n°8 are not HOT...) we just arrive without an idea about what we should do and we did volcanos...

JPEG Crew: We are so happy to being selected for the w4g italy, it was a great event, we don’t expect so many people there, and especially so many pretty girls!! The organization was alright, our wall wasn’t in a lucky position but our little genie "fargo" disengagied us with a swinger flow outline that seems a revival from the "hot wheels" logo, we are so younger inside :-D . Makin’ the "hot spot" topic wasn’t hard, it was so amazing! 

And the ThrowUps word JUMP wasnt easy or?

VMD70´s: Not really, the JU is not really easy I think, the MP works better but the two couples of letters are structurally very diverse one respect to the other.

THE Crew: well, as a friend say: throw-up master is the one that do the most in the street, so the guy have done our, really couldn't loose it... he is the italian most active street bomber...

JPEG Crew: Hehehehe, our throw up was the first to be done… and u can see the result… not so good L I think the throw up was the most difficult things to do, but I like the other crew’s jobs, especially the VMD 70’s, the ads and the "the" throw ups.

you take care for the other write4gold eliminations? Example in  greece, spain or slovakia? What you think about the quality there and the events?

The Crew: I think many different styles, some impressed me, some I like some don't came out of the wall (same like Italy). Especially the quality in greece surprised me personally a lot.

JPEG Crew: Yes, I’ve see all flicks on the site about other competitions, I like the Greece writers and for us wasn’t really a surprise the greek w4g, I’d like so muche the "OFK" concept panting, also the "errorism" job was amazing even if isn’t relating with the topic…

Scoe, the sketch of your crew was really great and you has won the copic sketching categorie with high points, who did the sketch?

JPEG Crew: The sketch is an oste job, I like so much his letter’s flow, and I’m so happy that you also enjoy them!

What it mean VMD and the number 70´s?

VMD70´s: Vimo makes damage, Vandals menu deluxe... and a thon of others as usual.. The 70s meaning? A nice clue for you to solve...

It has anything to do with the VMD Crew in France?

VMD70´s: Not really, but we had some chance to talk to them and it's really nice people, no stupid problems at all from both side.

and THE?

THE Crew: how many time in this interwiew we use the word THE? that's what does it mean...( why people use their own crew and inside they wrote THE CREW? thanks guys!

you are connected with the THE Crew in copenhagen?

THE Crew: of course, it's the same... THE - since 1997 - Rome - Bologna -copenhagen

and Scoe, what about JPEG?

JPEG Crew: Its’ a long long story, the name was born in a cold night from an idea of "oste" & mine, then all magazines wants our flicks.. if you take a look every ‘zine write "SEND JPEG 300 DPI FLICKS" and I mean all the world love us, we are so cool (or idiots )

It has anything to do with the THE Crew in copenhagen?

THE Crew: of course, it's the same... THE - since 1997 - Rome - Bologna - copenhagen

What did you prefer, walls, streetart, trains, bombing? And what > you think about stickers and streetart at example?

VMD70´s:  Trains, trains and again trains. We've always been a trainwriters crew mostly. Milan subway have been bombed so much in the last years that we collected more than 120 whole cars and thons of panels. We believe the trains should be the first target for each one who want to be a writer, but some walls are also fun to spend time with friends and having some chill. Stickers and streetart? It's like rollerblade to skaters, make your counts.

THE Crew: ...heeeey! don't joke with us, we love only metals... than after years, everyone is finding is way. streetart is for artists and 99% of people that do it are not artists, there is to much "art" on the streets

JPEG Crew: We like all that we can do, especially trains, We do also stickers with an essential graphic design, Like the ©>> logo created by fargo for the ©>> crew, I’m not so interessed about street art, I like only few artist, I think only a little bit of the whole "streetatists" can be called "artist", but it’s only my point of view

and 3d styles?its possible to burn with it?

VMD70´s: We love letters, not technics. We prefer a well done throw up than a 100 colors 3D style with ugly letters at his base. As usual Delta and a few others keep theirselves higher than the rest.

THE Crew:  I have some 3'd friends, and... I really like that pieces, but people like that...( CAP, STYLEWARS)

JPEG Crew: Yes! Why not? I see a lot of 3d style that really rock!when there’s a lettering of course! I love the "peeta’s" pieces so much, or for remaining in italy, I also like the overspin’s productions ( take a look to their website www.overspin.it )

VMD,you think the reason why you win this year is because of other judges like poet73 or bates, not smash137 or atom?

VMD70´s: Probably, cause if you take a look at our wall from the other year you can recognize the same feeling of this year, I mean we did a nice letters and simples icons mix, our goal is to produce a homogenous piece, not dividing Characters from letters, and keeping the letters at the first place. Writing Is about doing letters, everything else should be in support of them, not stealing too much space to them... We did a nice job in every competition, probably Bates and Poet made the rest for the final decision.

its worth to you to get the write4gold title?

VMD70´s: Write4Gold is closed competition, you can choose to play or not, we win with 3 judges, and that's worth for us cause we personally appreciate the productions from them for years, but I don't think that this winning means something more, we're not playing football and writing is not a championship, you know what we mean, writing lives in the street. In any case, to be honest, it's always cool to win!

yes of course, this is how we communicate our competition!...and the THE are a little bit  disappointed about the second place right? You think next year  you will participate again? And tell me, what you think about the  other walls, especially the VMD Wall?

THE Crew: If nobody will send you better pics than us, we'll participate... we loose really like toys, if only the Tag was done by P... the others walls? some really bad shit, some really bite shit (german trains from 2000/2003) and some really nice pieces ,but did they came out of the wall like in sweden?..plus this VT guys from Roma... good job!

and Scoe?...you are disappointed about the third place? You think next year you will participate again? ...what you think about the other walls, especially the VMD and the THE Wall?  you think like THE?

JPEG Crew: Absolutely not! We are happy to being in rome, we pass a great time and that’s the most important thing, I’ve met a lot of friends that I can’t see often like the ads crew from naples and also the first lines (grande meth evviva le tue nuvolette!!), we hope to being there the next year! I think that the VMD 70’S wall was the best, like the last year they put their name in the topic and it’s a good idea, also great letters and designs, the "the" production was cool with their simple to read style, But one of my favourite lettering it’s the ads crew one.

what about the plans for the future with THE Crew?

THE Crew: actually we are working on t-shirt line "THE SINCE 1997", the project is to came out with many different styles and ideas... hope people likes...

JPEG Crew: To conquer the world!

what you think about the categories and the weighting, concept painting 60%,copic sketching 20%, action throwups 15% and tagging 5%?

VMD70´s: I personally would invert the weights of tagging and sketching, sketching is a preliminar job. You don't go out for sketching, there's a wide difference between doing a sketch and doing it on the wall! Tagging is the seed of writing, everything comes form a tag evolving in 30 years and more of graffiti. Try to think what's the first and the last thing you've ever done in writing, the answer is 'a tag'; the first tag you did and the tag after your last piece. In Italy you can see too much people who can't do a nice tag near their pieces... people works on characters, 3d, technics, but they forgot where they come from.

THE Crew: as  t-bombers, I also dont use so much sketching and I think 1 hour is not enough...so sketching 15% and tagging 10%.

JPEG Crew: Is really hard to judge a writer’s job, and judge it in some "categories" is’ if possible, hardest; Different styles, point of views, always some people who don’t agree each other… The only think I say is that tagging need to buy more importance than the only 5% But it’s also true that mathematics don’t work with graffiti…
