Write4Gold European Finals at Splash Festival, Bitterfeld, Germany, Friday 11h July 2008. The 6th season of Write4Gold was coming to a conclusion when the 8 winner teams from all over Europe showed up at Splash Festival, ready to battle for one of the 4 spots in the World Finale the following day. The spectacular amphiteathre provided a stunning setting for this showdown, with scaffolding constructed so the crews would paint in two levels, a really nice touch from the organisation side. The walls and cans were handed out and the topic was given: Science Fiction. Teams from UK, Germany, Austria, Estonia, Denmark, Spain and Italy started their walls and first outlines of robots and crazy lettering started appearring. Still no sign of the Gipsy Kings from Romenia, but with their notoriety of showing up late, everybody knew they would make it and do a nice wall in no time.

The German festival weather gave us a little bit of everything, sunshine, heat, rain, wind, but nothing could stop the dedicated crews. The young Team UK worked on a Science Fiction convention theme, with Star Wars nerds and Trekies, while most other teams settled for styles floating in space with robots, ufos, planets and astronauts providing the scenery. The throwup competition went smoothly, the words to throwup was SRY and SAK. The tagging competition was on canvas with the new one4all markers from Molotow. The tag word was: Splash The sketching competition word was: Science After the throwup, tag and sketching it was time to finish the walls. Teams worked against the clock to finish on time, especially team Romenia was hurrying to finish. At 20.30, after some extra time due to heavy rain earlier, time ran out and it was time for the teams to judge eachother along with the official Write 4 Gold judge, Can2 from Germany. Tastes and styles varied a great deal and finding the winners was not easy. In the end, team Italy, the LDK crew was the overall winner with their astrunaut space wall and they provided a winning scene that left nothing to the Italian soccer team in terms of joy and happiness. Second place went to team UK, the young RT crew for their convention wall and a split third place went to Berlins own CMD crew and to the Copenhagen Connection crew. 4 teams had been voted to move on to the World Finale and it was time to say goodbye to the last 4. The Gipsy Kings from Team Romenia had done a very nice style and wall and had they arrived a bit early it was not to say what they could have achived. Team Estonia represented very well, coming from a very new and upcoming scene that we will see more from in the future. Team Austria left us with a very nice conceptwall and colourfull style and Team Spain showed great skill with characters.  Thanks to all participating crews and organisers for making the Write4Gold European finale such a great event.
