 Write4Gold World Finals 2008, splash!, Germany, Saturday 12th July. Most of the teams stayed at the same tentcamp at the VIPcamping area. So after starting the day with a nice swim in the lake next to the festival area, it was time to meet in the amphitheatre on this beautiful sunny saturday morning.
The lineup for the World Finale looked like this: Team Italy, Team UK, Team Germany, Team Denmark, Team New Zealand (reining champions), Team Australia, Team Russia
Team South Africa had not made it to Splash Festival (but is automatically qualified to the World Finals 2009) and was replaced by Team Romania, which had finished 5th on the previous day. Only some teams met up early and was given a wall, the box of cans and the topic: Make it funky. Team New Zealand, team Italy, team UK and team Denmark started early, while the rest took a slower approach to the conceptwall. Most teams seem to go for a music related theme for their wall, while Team Denmark outlined an old s-train car and Team UK worked on a funkfactory scene and team Russia was working on something completely different compared to everyone else, very nice to see the crews representing their regional styles at this world finale. Throwup: KRS and EAT Sketch: Rhythm Tag: Sexmachine. The weather was on its best side, it was hot and humid, without too much sun and no rain at all, pretty much perfect weather for a world finale. During the day, many spectators stopped by the amphitheatre and chilled out to the nice music while watching the crews making it funky on the conceptwalls. The W4G judge for the world finale was none other than the elusive Razor from Germany and along with the crews themselves he had to judge all the first class walls that had been produced during the day, it was truly one of the highest quality Write 4 Gold events ever. The wining ceemony was done by Rene from Wrie4Gold and instead of the usual writing of the results on a wall, he took the microphone and announced the following top 3 winner of the Write4Gold World Final 2008: Third place went to The Gipsy Kings from Team Romenia. A conceptwall with uncountable different styles and a nice posse of gipsy characters secured them the best result for a Romenian team ever in Write 4 Gold. A bit suprising since they made the World finals on the last open spot. Second place went to Team Denmark, who made it funky with an conceptwall of an old Copenhagen S-train running through the Splash festvial area covered in graffiti. Styles by Soten and Storm and character and background work by Blend, Zomby and Desm. This was the highest placement of a Scandinavian team since the swedish MCE crew won Write 4 Gold 2004. And since a danish team has never made the top 3 in the final, there was much rejoycing in the Copenhagen Connection crew. In the end, everyone agreed that the Team New Zealand wall was the best of the day, and one of the best W4G walls of all time. Really nice styles worked out by Askew and Sirum, great background work by Pest5 and the rest of the crew and to top it off, unbelieveable characters by Deus secured the reigning champions from the TMD crew another World Finale victory. Its the first time in W4G history that a team has won 2 World Finals!! Thanks to all the crews that participated at Splash and congratulations to the TMD crew from New Zealand with title.
